MEMPHIS, Tenn. (WMC) – For a limited time, future pet owners can get a scary-good deal for a certain-colored “man’s best friend” that shelter officials say suffers lower adoption rates.
Memphis Animal Services (MAS) has announced that adoption fees for all-black and mostly-black dogs are $10.31 through Halloween.
MAS says black dogs are often overlooked in shelters based purely on their color, a phenomenon called “Black Dog Syndrome,” or BDS.
MAS says black dogs can also be more difficult to photograph, making other lighter-colored canines stand out more in shelter photos.
Historically, black animals have been linked to bad luck, but you can help a loving pup luck out this fall season.
