Some shelter dogs do not act like dogs who were raised with one family from puppyhood in a loving, indoor home. Dogs raised with love often exhibit confident, social, outgoing, and trusting behavior. Unfortunately, some dogs are left outdoors to their own devices and are not offered much socialization beyond their very limited way of life. Such is the case for an evolving two-year-old boy named Tiger who is currently in Marion County Animal Services in Ocala. The shelter reached out via social media in the hopes that they can attract a forever home for Tiger.
What Marion County Animal Services Knows About Tiger’s Background And His Status Today: Tiger was an outdoor dog before he began life at the shelter and therefore had very little socialization beyond his yard. In a Facebook post, the shelter calls Tiger a “project dog” which means that he needs an owner who will accept that Tiger needs to move in small steps to gain trust. He needs a family or owner who will shower him with patient love in a calm, stable environment.
Because the shelter has wanted to socialize him as much as possible, they’ve been allowing Tiger to hang out in the offices for about a month and he has come quite a long way. He is taking treats, is recognizing familiar faces, is wagging his tail sometimes, and is even walking on a leash.
There is one thing that is very endearing about Tiger – other than his soulful eyes – he has an area of fur on his coat that forms a heart (see the picture below.) He’s on the bigger side -weighing in at about 65 pounds at an estimated two years old.
Those who would like to see Tiger in person can visit him at Marion County Animal Services, which is located at 5701 SE 66th Street in Ocala, Florida. The phone number is 352-671-8700.
