She Was Crying On The Couch — Then Her Foster Dog Did The Sweetest Thing

When Molly arrived in her foster home, she’d already been through so much. She was surrendered to the shelter when she was very pregnant and was rescued by Blount County Animal Welfare Society (BCAWS) after giving birth, along with her eight puppies. Once her puppies were old enough to be adopted, the rescue found her the perfect foster home.

Her new foster family was excited to give her all the love and care she’d been missing — and had no idea that Molly would end up being the one to care for them.

Three days after taking in Molly, her foster family unexpectedly lost their very first foster (fail) dog, Sassy.

“Sassy had a hard life before us, and she is genuinely a soul dog of mine,” Samantha McGuire, Molly’s mom, told The Dodo. “I have never had a dog look at me with so much love like Sassy did up to the very end.”

When McGuire got home from losing Sassy, she was exhausted and devastated. She laid down on the couch, still crying, unsure of what to do with herself. Luckily, Molly knew exactly what to do.

“Molly came right up and laid on top of me with her paws on my chest and wouldn’t move,” McGuire said. “I was confused and so distraught, so I thought maybe she just wanted attention. I kept crying, and she pressed into me and let me hold her, and I realized she was comforting me. She was doing what she could to help me feel better.”

Molly did what so many therapy dogs get training to learn how to do for their owners when they need help. She laid on top of her mom to help calm her down, and continued to stay by her side in case she needed her.

“She’s truly sent from heaven,” McGuire said. “The night Sassy died, I knew we were going to keep Molly.”

McGuire knew then that Sassy had sent them Molly to help ease the pain after she crossed over the rainbow bridge, and Molly became a foster fail, just like Sassy was.

“She was already a foster that I knew would be very hard for me to let go of — but when she comforted me all night after losing Sassy, I told my husband I don’t think I can give her to anyone else,” McGuire said. “He is crazy about Molly and replied, ‘I was never going to let you give her to anyone else!’”

Now, Molly is a beloved member of the family and has continued to act as a therapy dog and best friend for all her new loved ones.

“My kids are obsessed with her — she’s the first dog we’ve ever had that will lay with them until they fall asleep,” McGuire said. “She now owns many sweatshirts, gets salmon oil on her food and is living her best spoiled life. I don’t know what I would have done without her after I lost Sassy … She’s so special, it’s like the universe gifted her to our family when we would need her most.”

The Favicon for the website, dogsandpurses(dot)com, features an all-black background with a minimalist line drawing of a puppy's head poking out of a stylish purse. The puppy's head is drawn with a cute and friendly expression, making it the focal point of the design. The purse, which the puppy is emerging from, is depicted with clean, elegant lines. The contrast between the black background and the white line drawing creates a striking and modern look for the Favicon.
