TOPEKA, Kan. (WIBW) – Shawnee County sheriff’s deputies rescued two dogs from an icy pond Monday afternoon just southwest of Topeka.
The sheriff’s office on Wednesday morning released bodycam footage of the deputies rescuing the dog.
According to a post on the Shawnee County Sheriff’s Office Facebook page, the incident occurred around 4:30 p.m. Monday in the 5800 block of S.W. Auburn Road.
According to the Facebook post, a person called 91l regarding two dogs stuck in a pond at that location.
“Two deputies arrived and immediately began taking action,” the Facebook post stated. “The deputies used their smarts and quick thinking to find a nearby kayak.
“The Auburn Fire Department assisted and pulled the kayak with the deputies and dogs back to shore.
“The dogs were reunited with their owners and taken to their veterinarian to be checked out.”
The Facebook post concluded with Shawnee County Sheriff Brian Hill commending “the decisiveness and quick thinking of the deputies while rescuing these dogs. We appreciate the callers for notifying the Dispatch and the teamwork that ensued.”
