Several pets die in house fire, one dog resuscitated by firefighters

BATTLE CREEK, MI — Several pets died in a house fire on Monday, April 21 in Battle Creek.

Firefighters responded to the house at 20 Everett Ave. shortly after 3 p.m. The fire, on the first floor of the home, was brought under control in 20 minutes, according to a press release from the Battle Creek Fire Department.

One of the family’s dogs was resuscitated by first responders, the release said. However, several other pets died. BCFD didn’t disclose how many pets died or what type of animals they were.

There were no other injuries. Firefighters searched the first and second floors, looking for occupants.

The cause of the fire was likely accidental or electrical, the release said.

The fire and smoke damage likely amounts to an estimated $150,000 in property damage and $80,000 in contents damage, per the news release.
