
The Norfolk SPCA is looking for donations for their latest rescue of five abandoned puppies.
NORFOLK, Va. — The Norfolk SPCA is requesting donations from the community for their latest rescue of five abandoned puppies.
According to a Thursday night social media post, the Adoption Center and Veterinary Clinic received a call about a litter of puppies that were found trembling in the cold, hungry and scared in a remote area of North Carolina.
The puppies’ mother and two of their siblings were also shot. One of the siblings, Baloo, survived the shooting but was injured by shattered bullet fragments in his leg and ankle. The other sibling and the mother died of their injuries.
The Norfolk SPCA said North Carolina authorities investigating the incident. Now, shelter workers are ensuring the five surviving puppies’ road to recovery is a smooth process.
“We could not turn our backs on them,” The Norfolk SPCA stated in their post. “These puppies deserved a chance at life, a chance for love, and a future filled with warmth.”
The organization said donations would go toward medical treatments for the puppies, including surgeries, vaccinations, daily care and rehabilitation.
“The road to recovery is not easy. But, they are all fighters — they’ve shown us that they want to live, to heal, and to grow. They want to trust humans again.”
The Norfolk SPCA also said a foster family picked up one of the five puppies and Baloo will require his surgeries before he is available to be fostered or adopted.
The other three remaining puppies are currently available, but the organization they prefer people “Foster to Adopt” in order to get them additional care required to get them back to being “normal” puppies again.
