Several dogs severely injure Missouri conservation agent detaining women for outstanding warrants

A warrant arrest in Iron Mountain Lake resulted in a dog attack, injuring two and leading to multiple arrests.

IRON MOUNTAIN, Mo. — An outstanding warrant arrest in Iron Mountain Lake turned into a brutal dog attack on Thursday, leaving two people injured, according to a statement from the St. Francois County Sheriff’s Office.

A Missouri conservation agent was conducting a routine patrol when they noticed that 36-year-old Megan Stroup had multiple outstanding warrants related to safety equipment, according to the statement. The agent attempted to take Stroup into custody when her 66-year-old mother, Janet Shy, interfered by pulling the agent away, causing Stroup to flee on foot.

During the altercation, several dogs belonging to 60-year-old Susan Adams, a woman who lived nearby, attacked the agent, the statement said.. The attack severely injured the agent, and Shy was bitten in the process.

Adams and an unidentified neighbor then attempted to separate the dogs from the agent, the statement said.

“The Conservation Agent suffered multiple severe lacerations and puncture wounds during the dog attack,” the sheriff’s office said. “EMS treated the agent on scene, and he was transported to the emergency room for further care.”

Shy, Stroup’s mother, fled to a nearby residence on Mexico Drive. She was treated by EMS and transported to a nearby emergency room, the statement said.

Upon her release, she will be taken into custody and transported to St. Francois County Detention Center, deputies said. Charges against Shy have been requested through the St. Francois County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office for second-degree assault on a Special Victim and resisting arrest.

Stroup was successfully located by the St. Francois County K-9 unit, near the scene, hiding in the weeds, the press release stated. Stroup resisted arrest and was treated for minor injuries at the scene and was also taken to a nearby emergency room and then transported to St. Francois County Detention Center.

Charges against Stroup have been requested through the St. Francois County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office for second-degree assault on a special victim, assault on a police animal, and resisting arrest.

During the investigation, seven outstanding warrants led to the arrest of Adams, the dog owner, the statement said. She was transported to St. Francois County Detention Center.

The incident required the assistance of St. Francois County Sheriff’s Department, Missouri State Highway Patrol, Iron Mountain Lake Police, Park Hills Police K-9, Bismarck Police, Missouri Department of Conservation, and the Mineral Area Drug Task Force.
