A seven-month-old baby girl has died in hospital from serious head injuries after being bitten by her family’s pet dog, according to police. Officers were called to a property in Coventry shortly after 3pm on Sunday, West Midlands police said on Wednesday.
Police and ambulance service workers arrived at the home within minutes, a statement released by the force said. The girl was taken to hospital by ambulance from the scene in Shorncliffe Road but died a short time later.
Police said the dog was not classed as a dangerous breed and was removed from the home and destroyed. No further details of its breed have been disclosed.
The police statement said: “A seven-month-old baby girl had received serious injuries to her head after being bitten by the family’s dog inside the home.
“She received treatment at the scene by paramedics before being rushed to hospital for further treatment. Tragically, she died a short time later. Our thoughts remain with her family at this devastating time.
“The pet dog, which isn’t classed as a dangerous breed, was removed from the home on Sunday and humanely destroyed.

Warwickshire and Northamptonshire air ambulance had also been scrambled to the scene.
