AUSTIN, Texas — For nearly 40 years, Service Dogs Inc. has been transforming unwanted dogs into invaluable companions for Texans facing significant challenges.
Sheri Soltes, CEO of Service Dogs Inc., said the organization is dedicated to training these dogs to become service animals, providing essential support to those in need.
“Because we do it free of charge and it’s really just us and two other ones that are big, big, big and national because the community has been so generous with donations. That’s why we can keep doing this. We can keep turning strays into stars. “said Soltes
Kenny Conley, a client of the organization, shared his experience with his service dog, Ruby.
“At home, she, If I where I’m in my chair, I can’t open my refrigerator, I have a, a tie on. And so I just tell her tug and she’ll tug it open. Help me. You know, so I can get the stuff out. Sometimes the back door is a little hard, so I did the same thing there. When I’m out, whether in the house or in public, if I drop, like, even keys or a wallet or something.”
But for Kenny it’s so much more than assistance around the house.
“Ruby, Ruby’s my companion. I mean, whenever the reason why, whenever I was at service dogs, they told me the reason why they they matched us is because I got to meet five dogs. She kind of picked me, and they already knew she was on my top list, so. And she’s been amazing. I’ve had her now for about ten and a half, 11 years.”
Service Dogs Inc. continues to make a difference, one wagging tail at a time, and joined Trevor Scott in the studio to share how the community can help support this vital work.
