Senior dog demands to be carried upstairs: “Calling for an Uber”

A devoted dog dad helping his senior pooch up the stairs has captured the hearts of the internet.

Katie, who goes by @katiehilgemann597 on social media, shared the sweet footage on TikTok, quickly garnering 37,400 likes and 233,600 views.

“My husband is so sweet to our 15-year-old pup,” Katie wrote as the text overlay in the video. In the clip, their dog Allie barks to alert her dad.

She then wags her tail excitedly as she waits at the bottom of the stairs, watching her dad approach. Without hesitation, he scoops her up into his arms and gently carries her up the steps.

“She knows how to call for his help,” the video’s caption reads, showing the strong bond between the aging dog and her loving family.

Adopting a senior dog can be an incredibly rewarding experience, as older pets often have calmer temperaments and are typically already house-trained.

However, as with any dog, they require special care and attention to ensure their comfort in later years.

As previously written by the Dogs Trust, it’s important to keep senior dogs comfortable with regular vet check-ups, providing a warm and soft bed, and ensuring their diet suits their aging needs.

Additionally, adapting their exercise routine to be less strenuous but still stimulating is key to keeping them happy and healthy.

Helping senior dogs with mobility challenges, like navigating stairs, is also important.

Carrying or assisting dogs with harnesses designed for lifting their hindquarters can make a world of difference.

Creating ramps or using anti-slip mats for better traction can also be useful when stairs become too difficult for older dogs to manage alone.

TikTok users were enchanted by the touching scene.

“Calling for an Uber,” joked one viewer.

Another user shared, “Our dog is at that age where she needs to be carried, and she LOVES ‘uppies’ from my husband too.”

The sight of Allie’s wagging tail melted hearts everywhere, with one commenter adding: “That tail wagging all the way up the stairs.”

Senior dog parents also chimed in, with one saying, “Our seniors deserve all they desire. My boy is 15, and I watch him every day, praying he makes it another year.”

The Favicon for the website, dogsandpurses(dot)com, features an all-black background with a minimalist line drawing of a puppy's head poking out of a stylish purse. The puppy's head is drawn with a cute and friendly expression, making it the focal point of the design. The purse, which the puppy is emerging from, is depicted with clean, elegant lines. The contrast between the black background and the white line drawing creates a striking and modern look for the Favicon.
