Sen. Collins fights against new CDC rules about bringing dogs from Canada to US

PORTLAND (WGME) – Senator Susan Collins says she’s fighting new rules from the CDC over dogs traveling from Canada to the U.S. which could directly impact the Can-Am Crown International Sled Dog Race, since the majority of those dogs are Canadian.

The new requirements include microchips for dogs, and the owners must bring vaccination papers for their pets.

Because puppies under six months can’t be vaccinated, they wouldn’t be able to come at all.

Collins has sent a letter to the CDC explaining why she’s against the change.

“This proposal could impose a real hardship and just does not seem necessary when you’re dealing with a low-risk country like Canada,” Collins said.

Collins says the rules would create unnecessary stress and expense for people traveling with their pups.

The Favicon for the website, dogsandpurses(dot)com, features an all-black background with a minimalist line drawing of a puppy's head poking out of a stylish purse. The puppy's head is drawn with a cute and friendly expression, making it the focal point of the design. The purse, which the puppy is emerging from, is depicted with clean, elegant lines. The contrast between the black background and the white line drawing creates a striking and modern look for the Favicon.
