Search is on for top dog in season’s first show in Guernsey

Dogs are competing to be top of the class in a show in Guernsey.

Guernsey Kennel Club is hosting the members’ Kennel Club Show at the David Ferguson Hall in Beau Sejour starting at 09:00 GMT on Sunday.

Vice President Paige Le Moignan said 78 competitors had entered, including some from the UK.

She said judges look at dogs’ movement, their condition and inspect their bone and muscle structure and health, as well as behaviour.

“You’ve got to make sure that dog is perfect at every level.

“There has got to be an eye-catching dog to do well in a show. If that dog hasn’t got the oomph it won’t catch the judge’s eye as much,” she said.

Categories include classes for junior handlers with classes for children six years up to 16, as well as best in show and best puppy.

Ms Le Moignan said the show was “a great chance to come up, have a look, see lots of different dogs”.

The members’ show is followed by three open shows – in May, September and October.

The seven group winners from the open shows qualify for the Kennel Club’s Crufts dog show the following year.

Islanders can bring their dogs along to the Guernsey Kennel Club training classes if their dogs are Kennel Club registered.

The Favicon for the website, dogsandpurses(dot)com, features an all-black background with a minimalist line drawing of a puppy's head poking out of a stylish purse. The puppy's head is drawn with a cute and friendly expression, making it the focal point of the design. The purse, which the puppy is emerging from, is depicted with clean, elegant lines. The contrast between the black background and the white line drawing creates a striking and modern look for the Favicon.
