WASHBURN, Wis. — The Lake Superior Sea Dogs and Washburn Sharptails split two close games in a doubleheader Sunday, July 21, in Washburn, maintaining their deadlock in the Upper 13 League amateur baseball standings.
Washburn won game one 9-8 in extra innings, while Lake Superior took the second game, 6-5.
In game one, Dawson Rannow tied it for Lake Superior, which was down to its last strike in the seventh inning, with his second homer of the game. However, Washburn loaded the bases for Wyatt Obey in the bottom of the eighth, who drove in the game-winning run.
Rannow drove in four runs in a 3-for-4 performance, while Hayden Smith added a pair of hits.
In the second game, the Sea Dogs got out of a bases-loaded jam in the seventh inning when pitcher Eric Hinnenkamp recorded a key strikeout.

Our newsroom occasionally reports stories under a byline of “staff.” Often, the “staff” byline is used when rewriting basic news briefs that originate from official sources, such as a city press release about a road closure, and which require little or no reporting. At times, this byline is used when a news story includes numerous authors or when the story is formed by aggregating previously reported news from various sources. If outside sources are used, it is noted within the story.
