Hendry Mendez went 3 for 5 with a homer and five RBI as the Reading Fightin Phils swept an Eastern League doubleheader Wednesday night against the Portland Sea Dogs at Hadlock Field.
Mendez hit a three-run homer to cap a four-run sixth inning in the opener as the Fightin Phils won 5-1.
In the second game, Mendez had a go-ahead RBI single in the fourth inning of a 3-1 win.
In the opener, Portland grabbed a 1-0 lead in the second inning on Blaze Jordan’s fourth home run.
Reading tied the game on an RBI single by Mendez in the fourth inning.
In the sixth, Reading pulled ahead on an RBI single by Seth Beer. Mendez broke the game open with his homer later in the inning.
In the second game, Portland again got off to a 1-0 lead on an RBI double by Tyler Miller in the first inning.
Reading tied it in the fourth when Robert Moore scored on a balk by Jack Anderson, who then gave up the RBI single to Mendez.
Reading made it 3-1 on an RBI double by Luis Verdugo in the seventh.
In the bottom of the seventh, Portland had runners on first and third with one out, but Juan Chacon popped out to second and Zach Ehrhard grounded out to third.
