Hendry Mendez hit a three-run homer to cap a four-run sixth inning as the Reading Fightin Phils topped the Portland Sea Dogs 5-1 Wednesday in the first game of an Eastern League doubleheader at Hadlock Field.
Portland, which had a two-game winning streak snapped, grabbed a 1-0 lead in the second inning on Blaze Jordan’s fourth home run.
Reading tied the game on an RBI single by Mendez in the fourth inning.
In the sixth, Reading pulled ahead on an RBI single by Seth Beer and Mendez broke the game open with his homer later in the inning.
Portland had just three hits – Jordan’s homer, a double by Mark Kolozsvary and a single by Caden Rose.
