The Portland Sea Dogs are one of the biggest draws in minor league sports and they are very close to ensuring they stay in Maine for years to come.The team’s current lease for Hadlock Field with the City of Portland ends after the 2028 season, but team officials confirm to Maine’s Total Coverage they are in the final stages of negotiating a 15-year extension that includes a 5-year option. Officials with the team say they hope to have that deal finished soon.Earlier this season, the team marked 30 years since their first game at Hadlock.As we have reported, the team does need to invest about $10 million dollars into upgrades to the ballpark in order to meet Major League Baseball rules compliance. The biggest part of that project is building a new locker room area. Currently Sea Dogs’ clubhouse is in right field but the visiting clubhouse is in the basement of the Portland Expo, which is not in compliance.The team plans to build a new Sea Dogs clubhouse in the left field area and then turn the existing right field clubhouse into the space for the visiting team.The Sea Dogs are hoping to break ground on the project in August and finish in March, in time for the 2025 season.The project will also include some upgrades to the field surface itself.The team also announced Monday that Julia Gagnon will perform the National Anthem at a game next week.
