The Portland Sea Dogs escaped danger in the sixth and seventh innings Wednesday night for a 3-2 win and a split of an Eastern League doubleheader with the New Hampshire Fisher Cats at Manchester, New Hampshire.
Right fielder Karson Simas threw out Ryan McCarty, who was trying to score the tying run on a flyout, to end the sixth inning.
In the seventh, with runners on second and third and two outs, reliever Alex Hoppe got Yohendrick Pinango to ground out to short to end the game.
Blaze Jordan had an RBI single and Tyler Miller an RBI double in the first for Portland, which was the home team due to a rainout at Hadlock Field a few weeks ago.
Jhostynxon Garcia scored Portland’s third and final run on a wild pitch in the third inning.
Pinango had an RBI double in the second inning and a homer in the sixth.
In the opener, McCarty hit a two-run single in the bottom of the sixth in New Hampshire ‘s 3-2 win.
The loss ended Portland’s five-game winning streak.
