Scrim, the famously uncatchable terrier who has become an icon for New Orleans residents, has been captured again.
“WE GOT HIM!!! Much love to Trap DAT Cat!!! More details to come when I can breathe!!!,” Michelle Cheramie of Zeus’ Rescues said in a Facebook post Tuesday.
The post featured a photo of Scrim in Cheramie’s arms.
Named after a member of New Orleans’ nihilistic rap duo $uicideboy$, the scruffy outlaw has been on the run for months and been the subject of numerous sightings and unbelievable escapes.
Originally found in a Houma trailer park, the terrier was likely a pet before becoming a stray. He was rounded up by the staff of the Terrebonne Parish Animal Shelter on Halloween 2023.
Shelter staff there christened him Michael.
Cheramie saved him from a northshore dog pound, where he was close to euthanasia. He was brough to Zeus’ Rescues November 2023.
Scrim was eventually placed in a permanent home April 2024, but he found the one spot in the owner’s fenced-in yard where he could escape.
On the run for months, Scrim evaded a seven-person rescue team that toured the city.
Attempts to lure him with Popeyes fried chicken and potent beef tripe and zap him with a tranquilizer dart were unsuccessful.
Finally Scrim was caught in October, but was clearly wounded. He’d been shot twice, was missing several teeth and a chunk of his ear was missing.
Cheramie took him into her own home to help facilitate his recovery, but Scrim escaped again when he chewed a hole through Cheramie’s window screen and jumped from the second story of her house and wiggled through a gap in the iron fence surrounding her yard.
