DOVER — Pope Memorial Humane Society – Cocheco Valley (PMHS-CV), which serves animals in Strafford County and southern Maine, is asking for community support this Valentine’s Day to help two special dogs in their care who are battling heartworm disease.
Taking in any animal requires significant resources, according to PMHS-CV staff, but providing lifesaving treatment for two heartworm-positive dogs presents an extraordinary challenge. PMHS-CV is committed to giving Rusty and Taji the care they need to heal, staff said, and finding them loving forever homes.
Treating heartworm comes with steep veterinary costs, adding to the financial strain of caring for Rusty and Taji over the coming months. PMHS-CV is asking for donations to help cover their medical bills and the daily care these two dogs will need as they heal.
In addition, PMHS-CV is seeking volunteers to become “Heartworm Heroes” by fostering Rusty or Taji during their recovery. Learn more and donate here: https://bit.ly/3PS8Dfy.
