Police said the 45-year-old male suspect shot himself as officers attempted to conduct a search warrant at the apartment, prompting a SWAT response.
SAN ANTONIO — A large law enforcement presence was at a north-side apartment complex where San Antonio Police said a man suspected of shooting and killing dogs in a local neighborhood over the weekend, attempted suicide as officers were conducting a search warrant.
Police Chief William McManus said the officers arrived to the apartment complex on the 8500 block of Wakefield Drive on Wednesday afternoon where they tracked down a man who they believe is the suspect in the shooting of two dogs in separate incidents at a northwest side neighborhood.
As officers approached the man’s apartment to conduct a search warrant, McManus said a gunshot rang out from inside the apartment, prompting a SWAT response.
A drone was sent to search the apartment where the 45-year-old male suspect was found to have been injured from an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound.
Preliminary information from the police chief stated the suspect was dead, but in an update from SAPD, the man has reportedly been hospitalized and is in critical condition.
This is a developing story.
