These dogs are tasked with some important canine careers: helping veterans recover from post-traumatic stress disorder, assisting those with disabilities to live more independent lives, and even aiding the FBI in the prosecution of sensitive and violent crimes such as mass shootings.
They’re graduates of Assistance Dogs of the West, a Santa-Fe based organization which provides dogs with 1,800 to 2,000 hours of professional training to assist humans with advanced personal and emotional support.
At a doggie graduation ceremony Wednesday night at the Lensic Performing Arts Center, multiple owners came forward alongside their dogs to share their experiences with Assistance Dogs of the West.
