San Antonio ACS worker fired after video shows dog being dragged down hallway

SAN ANTONIO – A temporary employee for Animal Care Services (ACS) in San Antonio has been terminated after a widely-shared video shows a dog being dragged down a hallway.

The video has garnered thousands of views on several local pages. Commenters were outraged watching Hilo, an Alaskan Husky, being pulled on a leash past a row of kennels.

The person who took the video says this is not the first time this employee had exhibited concerning behavior, highlighting instances where she allegedly spoke harshly to the dogs.

ACS now confirms the worker wasn’t using appropriate handling methods with the dog and is no longer employed.

ACS says in a statement:

We are deeply concerned about a recent incident involving a temporary employee using inappropriate handling methods with a dog named Hilo on Saturday, February 22.

This unacceptable behavior goes against our values and commitment to humane animal care. Immediate action was taken, and the temporary worker was terminated.

Proper animal care is not just expected at ACS—it’s required.

Hilo is being transferred to one of our partners, and will be ready to find a forever home soon.

ACS has not identified the worker or provided details on how long they were employed.

A spokesperson confirmed the employee was from a temp agency.

News 4 and Fox SA independently obtained a copy of the video.

San Antonio ACS Director Jon Gary also provided a statement:

As the Director of San Antonio’s Animal Care Services (SAACS) I am deeply concerned about a recent incident involving a temporary employee who used inappropriate handling methods while interacting with a dog named Hilo on Saturday, February 22. This behavior is unacceptable, does not reflect our values and standards, and goes against our commitment to humane animal care.

Upon learning of the incident, We took immediate action, ensured Hilo was unharmed, and terminated the temporary worker involved. Proper animal care is not just an expectation at ACS—it is an absolute requirement. This incident should never have happened, and we are taking proactive steps to reinforce training and accountability measures.

Our mission is to protect and care for the animals in our community, and I appreciate the public’s trust and support as we uphold that responsibility. Hilo is being transported to one of our partners to help find her a forever home.

The Favicon for the website, dogsandpurses(dot)com, features an all-black background with a minimalist line drawing of a puppy's head poking out of a stylish purse. The puppy's head is drawn with a cute and friendly expression, making it the focal point of the design. The purse, which the puppy is emerging from, is depicted with clean, elegant lines. The contrast between the black background and the white line drawing creates a striking and modern look for the Favicon.
