“Sad all the way around” |Third dog death linked to Alexandria PetSmart

Earlier this week, 7News reported that two separate dogs died shortly after staying in the Potomac Yard PetSmart. Now, the Animal Welfare League of Alexandria (AWLA) has revealed a third dog fell in and died within a week of staying at the PetSmart PetHotel.

All three dogs were staying at the boarding facility at the same, the AWLA has confirmed.

While two of the dogs were cremated, one has not, and the AWLA’s Animal Services team sent the canine’s body for an autopsy to hopefully determine its cause of death. The autopsy results are expected within a week.

“It’s sad all the way around,” said Tony Rankin of the AWLA to 7News. He confirmed that the third dog was a Labrador Retriever.

7News started following this story two weeks ago, when Alexandria resident Andrew Noles’s dog Clarke, a 3-year-old Aussiedoodle, died two days after he was dropped off at PetSmart. That was on June 29.

Sonia King of Upper Marlboro contacted Animal Control and 7News after seeing the story and shared that her 7-year-old pure-bred Boxer Blu had also died after staying at the Potomac Yard PetSmart.

Noles and King both say that their dogs had recently passed vet check-ups and were healthy before the visit.

The Favicon for the website, dogsandpurses(dot)com, features an all-black background with a minimalist line drawing of a puppy's head poking out of a stylish purse. The puppy's head is drawn with a cute and friendly expression, making it the focal point of the design. The purse, which the puppy is emerging from, is depicted with clean, elegant lines. The contrast between the black background and the white line drawing creates a striking and modern look for the Favicon.
