ELLENBORO, N.C. (WBTV) – Deputies rescued 21 dogs from an Ellenboro home after receiving tips the dogs had been neglected.
Rutherford County deputies said they were doing extra patrols around Tisdale Street, right before Main Street and Piney Mountain Church Road branch off, on Feb. 16 when they got a tip about the dogs. They found multiple “severely malnourished” dogs at one of the homes.
Rodney Eugene Davis, 54, was arrested and charged with eight counts of dog vaccination violation and five counts of cruelty to animals.
The next day, deputies joined the Road Patrol Division, Animal Control Services, and Foothills Health District to rescue the dogs. Law enforcement noted hair loss, fur matted with feces, and bones showing through the skin.
As a result, Davis was charged with 16 counts of cruelty to animals.
Last month, multiple dogs were taken from an abandoned home in Rutherfordton just two days after snow and ice blanketed the area. At least one of the dogs died before they could be rescued.
