Rochester woman pleads for help after dog is allegedly taken

Rochester, N.Y. (WHAM) — A Rochester woman is asking for the community’s help after her dog was allegedly taken after getting loose from her backyard Saturday afternoon. The alleged incident was caught on surveillance video.

Michelle Killings said her dog managed to get through the gate in the backyard of her home on Pullman Avenue in Rochester. When reviewing the video captured by her Ring doorbell camera, she noticed something unusual.

“My Ring camera shows her kind of going up and down the driveway, and then you see her in the front of the house, kind of lingering around,” Killings recalled. “And you see a couple walking by, you know, looking at her, admiring her, or whatever, and then you see her kind of start walking along with the couple.”

Eme, short for Emerald, is Killing’s 1-year-old female American bully, who has a distinct feature known as a cherry eye.

Killings said her son went around the neighborhood asking if anyone had seen Eme. He found out the dog was reportedly at a nearby store on Dewey Avenue, and he asked the owners to see surveillance video.

“They did allow him to view it, and that’s when we saw that someone took her again, inside a silver SUV,” Killings said.

In the video from the store, you can see a dog being put into a vehicle. Killings claimed the people in the video who allegedly took Eme at the store were different than the couple she saw walking in front of her house.

The Rochester Police Department said its 311 center received a report Wednesday morning for allegations of a dog being stolen. Preliminarily, it was reported that the dog got loose and someone later took it.

Killings asks the community to keep an eye out for Eme.

“You know, our pets are our families, part of our family, so it means a lot,” she said.

“It’s very important to rely on our community when things like this happen,” Killings continued. “So, I’m hoping, I’m very hopeful, that she will be returned, and that hopefully, whoever has her will see this and will just do the right thing.”

Anyone with information is asked to call 911.

Killings also said anyone with information can reach out to her directly at (585) 719-4228.
