A Riviera Beach woman was booked in the jail after police say her dogs attacked three people.According to court records, on Dec. 19, Riviera Beach police officers were called to a home on West 24th Court for a dog bite incident. Police made contact with the owner of the dogs, Ashleigh Weissman, who told them she wasn’t home when the incident happened. The officer then went to the hospital, where a mother and young child were being treated for their injuries. The father told police his family was entering their home when three pit bulls rushed toward them and attacked. His wife sustained severe injuries to her right upper ar,m and his daughter suffered a bite mark on her right upper thigh and scratches on both cheeks. The father wasn’t hurt. Animal Care and Control was notified and implemented a plan requiring the dogs to remain inside the home until a follow-up assessment.Ten days later, on Dec. 29, police were called to the same home for another bite incident. Officers made contact with Weissman, who told them her friend had been attacked by dogs while arriving at the home to pick her up. The friend was found sitting in the front seat of a vehicle parked on the street, bleeding heavily from multiple injuries. According to court records, Riviera Beach Fire Rescue transported her to St. Mary’s Medical Center, where she was treated for multiple lacerations to her left arm and puncture wounds to her left thigh, requiring extensive medical treatment, including staples. The woman told police she was attacked by approximately five to six dogs that emerged from the backyard of her home when Weissman and another individual reportedly intervened to stop the dogs. After reviewing both incidents and further investigation, Animal Care and Control responded to the home and seized three dogs involved in the first incident. The probable cause statement shows Weissman admitted that a gray pit bull, identified as belonging to her cousin and allegedly involved in the first incident, was not at the residence. She also claimed the gray dog was not involved in the second incident because she had dropped the dog off at her family’s home in Loxahatchee the day before. Weissman refused to provide the location of the dog, claiming it was at her cousin’s home. Animal Care and Control issued Weissman citations for violations of local animal ordinances along with charges of failure to comply with animal control orders, reckless endangerment and violation of local leash laws.Riviera Beach police arrested Weissman on charges of neglect for failing to properly secure her dogs, resulting in bodily harm in both incidents. She was also arrested on charges including failure to comply with animal control orders, reckless endangerment, and violation of local leash laws.
