RITTMAN, Ohio (WOIO) – A Rittman family is grieving the loss of three of their dogs after they died in a house fire.
The Rittman Firefighters Association said the fire happened Thursday night.
The dogs likely died from smoke inhalation, according to the Rittman Firefighters Association.
Kayla Shue said she, her husband, and their three young sons were lucky to make it out of their house.
“I just remember in those moments just begging like for god to just swoop down our dogs were stuck in there,” Shue said.
Shue said their dogs, Capone, Moose, and Raven, were a big part of their family.
“I feel constant guilt just because it was a matter of save our lives and risk our lives trying to go back in and save our dogs,” Shue said.
The cause of the blaze was determined to be a faulty dehumidifier that caught fire and spread to two nearby pieces of furniture, according to the Rittman Firefighters Association.
Shue said she is grateful for the community’s support to help them get through this.
“We’re super grateful for everybody who has pitched in and loved our family even whenever they have their own issues or the holidays are coming up I’m just so grateful for that,” Shue said.
