Residents ‘frightened to leave their homes’ after ‘dogs kill pets’

According to one resident, who did not wish to be named, the attacks have seen both a pet cat and a dog killed.

The latest incident took place last Saturday (22 February) in the Hammy Lane, Shoreham, area, which was reported to police.

Sussex Police has confirmed they were called out.

A dog was seen running out of Middle Road Recreation Ground and attacking another dog in the street, the resident said.

An image shared with The Argus, purportedly of the injuries sustained by the dog, shows a large open wound.

The neighbour labelled the attack as “horrific”.

This comes after an incident in July, when the resident’s cat was reportedly killed in a dog attack.

A few weeks later, a dog was allegedly killed in another attack in Wilmot Road, the woman claimed.

The woman also shared how residents are frightened to leave their homes due to the incidents.

They said: “The neighbourhood is very scared. There are lots of small children in this neighbourhood and disabled people with service dogs who are frightened to go out.

“I used to take my little girl to the park, and I can’t do that anymore. I’m not the only one.”

They said: “These dogs are not trained and are dangerous to our community, they have intimidated people, many of us are now scared to allow our pets or children out of our houses.”

She added: “We should be able to feel safe in our community.”

She claimed all the incidents had been reported to the police – but expressed her disappointment with the lack of investigation.

“Every time there’s been an incident, the police have taken no further action to the case,” she said.

“We want to reach out as a community and get this voiced and get something done about it.

“Laws need to be changed because the police only intervene when a dog attacks a person. We are living in fear that it could be a child next.”

A spokesperson from Sussex Police said: “We received a third-party report of this incident on 22 February.

“As it is a civil matter, advice was given to the informant and intelligence passed onto the relevant policing team.”

The Favicon for the website, dogsandpurses(dot)com, features an all-black background with a minimalist line drawing of a puppy's head poking out of a stylish purse. The puppy's head is drawn with a cute and friendly expression, making it the focal point of the design. The purse, which the puppy is emerging from, is depicted with clean, elegant lines. The contrast between the black background and the white line drawing creates a striking and modern look for the Favicon.
