A search for missing dogs on Sixth Street in Fort Myers Shores turned into something residents would never expect in a million years: animal bones scattered across a trail. “I saw all the bones, all new bones. I mean, they were strategically placed like right before the trail,” said Miranda Wyatt. Searching for answers neighbors saw a man located on Sixth Street, baiting animals with food and placing antifreeze in a dish. “They know him, and they’re scared to death of them, so we weren’t able to put a camera out there and ever since then, I went to his door looking for another lost animal that just happened to be missing in this area, and the way he answered that door like I never seen anything like it,” Wyatt said. NBC2 did knock on the door to get a response from the man allegedly feeding animals antifreeze, but nobody answered. “It’s really frustrating, you know, that we’re trying to help the pet population and try to, you know, keep the animals safe, and then you have somebody like this that is just killing them,” said Michelle Nolan. Neighbors told NBC2 that 21 cats have been missing since the start of 2024. The bones were sent to Gainesville to see if they matched the identity of those missing dogs.The Lee County Sherriff’s Offices’ Animal Control Task Force is investigating this incident.
