Rescuers say abandoned dog doing well

A community of animal welfare specialists came together to save the life of a small dog that was found wrapped in a blanket and left for dead.

Handsome Dan’s Rescue for Pit Bull Type Dogs said on Facebook that the dog, now called Cricket, was found a week ago.

A good Samaritan took her to Ocean State Veterinary Specialists. The dog was transferred to Bay State Veterinary and Specialty Services.

Cricket was eventually discharged to the Providence Animal Control Center.

Handsome Dan’s said the dog was unable to walk and a plan was put it place to nurse it back to health in a foster home.

“She was put on a strict re-feeding schedule so as not to shock her system and to be sure her body could accept food and water. Those are next to impossible to be done in a shelter environment,” the post said.

“She became stronger each day and by the second day could even take a few steps on her own. With her oral and subQ medications, refeeding schedule, lots of TLC, she continued to look brighter and brighter each day,” Handsome Dan’s said.

Cricket was later moved to North Paws Veterinary Center for further care.

“While we were not able to share her until now, the awesome folks at PACC, BayState, Ocean State, and HDR have been focused on Cricket. This is a prime example of how partnerships work to save lives!” the post said.

The Favicon for the website, dogsandpurses(dot)com, features an all-black background with a minimalist line drawing of a puppy's head poking out of a stylish purse. The puppy's head is drawn with a cute and friendly expression, making it the focal point of the design. The purse, which the puppy is emerging from, is depicted with clean, elegant lines. The contrast between the black background and the white line drawing creates a striking and modern look for the Favicon.
