MONTGOMERY COUNTY, Ark. (KATV) — The Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office executed a search warrant Thursday morning after reports of alleged animal abuse.
At 8:30 a.m., May 29, deputies began their investigation into two homes on Smith Creek Road in Norman, just outside of Glenwood.
KATV spoke with Montgomery County Sheriff Neal Thomas and the homeowners of the residence where the search warrant was executed.
“We received a report of some possible allegations of mistreatment of malnourished animals,” Thomas said. “My department has been working on this for a while. We got enough information last night to write a search warrant. The search warrant was granted and ordered by our circuit judge. At about 8:30 this morning we executed that search warrant. We are currently in the process of executing it and collecting other items and stuff. We will be here for quite a while.”
KATV obtained a copy of the search warrant from the homeowners, which lists many of the allegations made by neighbors of animal mistreatment. There were more than 20 separate reports the Sheriff’s office received dating back to September 5, 2022, until the latest on May 28, 2025. All of which can be read below.
The search warrant also states neighbors told authorities they believe there are more than 150 animals on the property.
One of the homeowners, who agreed to speak off-camera, said, “My dogs don’t hurt other animals.”
As for the claims of animal malnourishment, another resident of the home said they purchase a “pallet” of dog food every week for their dogs. The homeowners provided receipts that show purchases of dog food.
Sheriff Thomas also said a male suspect is in custody for charges unrelated to the investigation after assaulting an officer during the execution of the search warrant.
KATV spoke with Debra Buschman, 18th West Judicial District Prosecuting Attorney, who said the search warrant was related to animal cruelty.
“We executed the search warrant to gather evidence, and it will be evaluated to determine if a crime has been committed.”
Representatives with NovaStar Rescue, Cuddle Babies, and Paws of Glenwood were on the scene to assist in the rescue.
A representative with NovaStar rescue said they have found more than 100 dogs on the property so far, and they are requesting assistance with this rescue.
The representative said they need flea and tick medication and dog food. NovaStar can be reached at their Facebook, here.
No charges have yet been filed for the animal cruelty investigation.
Those under prosecution are assumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
