Rescue Puppies Return to the Ice to Play in the 2025 Stanley Pup Hockey Game

An adorable dog competition is returning!

The National Hockey League (NHL) is hosting the Stanley Pup for the second year in a row.

In partnership with Petco Love, the canine competition, which sees rescue pups playing their version of hockey, will feature energetic shelter animals representing all 32 NHL teams.

Some of the dogs “will be available for adoption from a shelter or rescue group in their respective city,” according to a release about the event. “During the 90-minute special, the pups will face off in a friendly competition showcasing their adorable canine skills.”

Many celebrity dog lovers will appear during the special, including Jamie Lee CurtisPaula AbdulCedric the EntertainerGeorge LopezMichael Bublé, Will Reeve, Cheri Oteri, and Nikki Glaser.

PEOPLE reported on last year’s Stanley Pup, which featured 16 puppies on the ice representing the teams that made the 2024 NHL playoffs.

“We were thrilled with the success of the first-ever Stanley Pup in 2024, and because of the amazing response from audiences watching at home, the NHL is excited to bring it back this season with even more rescue dogs,” Steve Mayer, president of the NHL,  said in a statement.

Stanley Pup executive producer Michael Levitt added, “There’s nothing more gratifying than making content that actually changes lives, and in this case, both for the dogs needing homes and the families that adopt them.”

Fans can watch the 2025 Stanley Pup on TruTV at 2:30 p.m. PT / 5:30 p.m. ET on June 6. The show will also air on NHL Network at 4 p.m. PT / 7 p.m. ET on June 8 and on the NHL’s digital platforms.
