SEATTLE (KOMO) – More than 60 dogs and cats coming out of Los Angeles shelters arrived safely in Seattle on Sunday at King County International Airport – Boeing Field.
The animals were flown out from the Los Angeles area away from devastating wildfires and into the caring hands of Seattle Humane.
“We’re going to get everybody in and tucked in tonight, they’ve had a long day,” said Alison Waszmer with Seattle Humane as the animals arrived at the airport.
Shelters in California are in desperate need to get animals to safety, and Seattle Humane is one of many organizations that stepped up to help.
While most of the 60 animals will go to Seattle Humane, six of the dogs on the plane will head to The Pittie Project PNW.
“When they come in, we allow them to decompress. We give them time to relax before we start assessing them,” said Ashley Georgia, president of The Pittie Project PNW.
After a long and frightening trip, the cats and dogs are hopefully now closer to new forever homes in the Seattle area.
But animal care workers say this is just the start.
“We’re not in the aftermath, it’s all still going on, they need as much help and support as possible right now,” Georgia said.
