Rescue Dog Refuses to Budge From Her ‘Birth Plan’ in Cute Video

Expecting dog moms, like humans, can have some strong opinions about how and where they want to give birth. For many dogs, those instincts kick in hard — especially when they feel the need to create a safe and comfortable place for their puppies. In a recent Instagram video, one pregnant rescue dog made it very clear that she had a plan of her own — and she wasn’t giving it up without a little negotiation.

A reel posted to the Instagram account @ourgirldaisyrae shows a pregnant Great Pyrenees named Daisy stubbornly sticking to her version of a “birth plan.” In the clip, Daisy is seen sitting proudly in a large hole she dug in her family’s backyard. Her owner gently tries to reason with her, saying, “Daisy, you can’t have your babies out here honey.” But Daisy clearly had other ideas. According to her owner, Daisy had spent weeks carefully digging that hole, working on it day after day. So, when labor was approaching, it made perfect sense to her that this was the place to give birth.

Unfortunately for Daisy, her birth spot wasn’t exactly ideal. Aside from the cold temperatures expected the next day, Daisy had also unknowingly dug up electrical and Wi-Fi cables, making the spot not only uncomfortable but also dangerous.

While Daisy was determined to stick to her plan, her humans knew it wasn’t safe to let her stay there. With some patience, a leash, and a few treats, they were able to coax her back inside to the cozy whelping area they had set up for her. Within a few hours, Daisy gave birth to her puppies.

Daisy’s behavior might seem quirky at first, but it actually lines up with the instincts typical of her breed. Great Pyrenees are natural livestock guardians, bred to protect animals in rugged outdoor environments. As a result, many of them have strong nesting instincts and will often dig holes to create a safe, den-like space to rest or give birth. For Daisy, a hole in the backyard might feel more secure and instinctively “right” than a cozy indoor whelping box — even if it’s not the most practical choice.
