A refurbished dog wash facility for guide dogs has opened at a specialist college.
The new space at the Royal National College for the Blind (RNC) in Hereford includes a new bath and grooming table as well as easy-clean flooring and storage facilities.
The refurbishment was planned by college student Izzy, who wanted a “more user-friendly space” to bathe her guide dog Judy, with the revamped facility dubbed ‘Judy’s Groom Room’.
Fellow student Sonal and other staff members had also organised a charity hair chop to raise funds for the room, raising a total of £1,300 for the project.
The group also received a grant of £2,500 from Pets at Home’s charity, the Pets Foundation, which ensured the project’s completion.
“I’m thrilled with the refurbishment and would like to say a massive thank you to everyone who raised money through sponsored haircuts, to the Pets Foundation and to the RNC Estates Team who completed the refurbishment work,” Izzy said.
A RNC spokesperson added it was “extremely proud of Izzy’s accomplishment” and the “positive impact” the room would have on the college’s community of guide dogs.
