Here’s something we never thought we’d see on the ranch: Ree Drummond in a kitchen with no stove, no oven… and a strict rule about staying out of it! With spring in full swing, Ree and her family have taken their friendly competition outside—and they’ve apparently found a new favorite sport. She just shared a hilarious Instagram reel of her first-ever pickleball game featuring Alex, Mauricio, baby Sofia (who provided moral support from the sidelines), and four enthusiastic dogs who may or may not have followed the rules.
“My very first pickleball game, as you can tell by my complete inability to understand the scoring,” Ree wrote in her caption. “Sofia hung in there till the end as you will see! Also, this edit is misleading. Mauricio creamed us in the first game, then we were able to eke out small victory in a three-point game at the end. Also, I chose to include all my decent shots and all the times Alex and Mauricio told me I was good. (I wonder what Mauricio’s edit would look like? 😂) Who wants to come play with me? It’s not Ladd’s cup of tea.”
Despite the questionable scoring system, it looks like everyone had a blast—especially the dogs, who took their roles as on-court distractions very seriously. At one point, George had to be politely asked to move (multiple times), and Ree couldn’t help but compare the whole experience to another animal-filled activity: “It’s like goat yoga, but it’s dog pickleball,” she joked.

Looks like pickleball isn’t going anywhere—except maybe onto Ladd’s to-do list! “Next step: get Laddy out on the court,” Alex wrote in the comments of Ree’s post, already plotting the family’s next pickleball challenge. That may take some convincing, but Ree seems to be warming up to the sport. Give it a few months, and by the end of summer, we may just see her calling out the score like a pro. Or at the very least, getting the dogs to respect the kitchen line!
