A video of a woman trying to keep a straight face while explaining why her dog was sent home from daycare has gone viral.
The TikTok video, shared by Lowri (@lowriandpickle), captures the moment she attempts to have a serious conversation with her Staffordshire terrier, Pickle. However, it’s impossible not to laugh as Pickle seems to understand he’s in trouble.
The footage shows the pair sitting on the sofa as Lowri says to the black dog: “Tell everyone what happened.” Pickle responds with an unusual groaning noise, as if acknowledging that being sent home isn’t a good thing.
Looking her dog directly in the eyes, Lowri asks: “Why were you sent home from daycare?” She then reveals the hilarious reason: Pickle had been humping all the other dogs. In response, Pickle groans again and appears to hang his head in shame as he lies down.
Why Do Dogs Hump?
Humping is a common behavior in dogs, but as seen with Pickle, it can sometimes become problematic. As previously explained by the American Kennel Club (AKC), humping is often an attempt at dominance, whether directed at a human or another dog. However, it’s not always sexually motivated. In some cases, it can indicate stress, overstimulation, or even a way of acting out. Humping might also signal a medical issue, such as an infection, irritation, or, in male dogs, prostate problems. While it’s true that humping can occasionally be a sexual, pleasure-seeking behavior, this is more likely in younger dogs that haven’t been spayed or neutered.
Humping between dogs can be normal during play but may lead to conflict if one dog dislikes it. Preventing even mild mounting can help avoid issues. Addressing the behavior early, rather than letting it become a habit, is key. While it might seem amusing initially, it’s better to redirect the behavior right away.
In the comments, Lowri told one user that Pickle won’t be returning any time soon as he has to wait until “his chemical castration kicks in.”
This is a temporary solution for dogs lasting 6-12 months. It involves a hormone-releasing implant placed under the dog’s skin without requiring anesthesia. The implant suppresses fertility and gradually wears off, eliminating the need for removal unless adverse reactions occur. The ideal age for the procedure varies based on the dog’s size and the purpose of castration, so consult your vet for guidance.
But whatever the reason was for Pickle’s humping, the internet refused to believe he was up to no good and many have backed his case.
One user said: “Aww poor pickle, I think doggy daycare misunderstood his intentions he was asking for a piggyback for goodness sake.”
Another asked: “So he’s showing his friends he loves them and he’s in trouble?!?”
“Better to be a lover than a fighter,” pointed out a third user.
Newsweek reached out to @lowriandpickle for comment. We could not verify the details of the case.
