MISSOULA — Representatives from Montana animal shelters arrived at the Missoula Airport on Sunday to pick up 39 dogs flown out of shelters in Southern California.
Dogs displaced in the destruction of the Southern California wildfires have been pushing Los Angeles shelters over max capacity since the blaze began nearly a month ago. In order to help alleviate the overwhelmed facilities, various Montana shelters from Missoula, Hamilton, Livingston and Bozeman volunteered to help house adoption dogs relocated to the Treasure State.
“There was a desire for Montana to see if we could assist the Los Angeles area because we knew lots of shelter animals needed to be moved out,” said Gina Knepp, national shelter engagement director at Michelson Found Animals and board director at the Bitter Root Humane Association.
