JACKSON, Mo. (KFVS) – Nestlé Purina PetCare team members in Bloomfield delivered a $25,000 donation to Mac’s Mission, a special needs dog rescue based in Jackson, Missouri.
The funds will be used to start the construction of a new facility building, enhancing the services of the nonprofit.
According to a release from Purina, Mac’s Mission “specializes in special,” taking in dogs with heartbreaking stories and providing them with the love, care, and support all pets deserve. The team at Mac’s Mission goes above and beyond to ensure the dogs they rescue can live their best lives.
Purina Factory Manager, Jeff Goodmanson, says their Bloomfield team was moved by Mac’s Mission.
“Our team in Bloomfield was moved by the dedication and compassion demonstrated by Mac’s Mission. They take in some of the saddest cases and find ways to give them their best life,” Goodmanson said. “We share their passion for pets and are inspired by the work they do in southeast Missouri and across the country.”
The new building under construction for Mac’s Mission will reportedly deliver several critical needs for the organization, including an expansive front public lobby space for staff to coordinate adoption visits, host orientations, welcome volunteers, facilitate meet and greets, and host educational activities.
The new building will also house several kennels designed specifically to meet the needs of paralyzed dogs. These zero-entry kennels allow dogs to enter through both indoor and outdoor runs and will aid dogs who may be in wheelchairs or have other handicaps to have safe and accessible living spaces. Their outside kennels will be connected to a large, flat play yard for them to run free and play in their wheelchairs.
Mac’s Mission also plans to have a therapy room that will house aquatic therapy, stem therapy, and various physical therapy tools to help their dogs get moving and recover from injuries and amputations.
Mac’s Mission Founder and CEO, Rachelle Steffen, says they are forever grateful for the opportunity.
“We rescue the worst-case special needs pets in critical crisis and having this grant available to us to help in build a center better equipped for the wheelchair dogs and other janky dogs we rescue is everything! Thank you to everyone at Purina for the generosity,” said Steffen.
Mac’s Mission is also transitioning to feeding Purina products to all animals in its care. This transition is being facilitated through a product donation from Purina.
