A puppy’s lighthearted attempt to take on a much larger canine has left viewers online in hysterics.
The puppy had been captured barking at the larger dog, a golden retriever, before an even larger canine, a Saint Bernard, intervened to stand in front of the energetic Newfoundland puppy and defend the relaxed golden. The short clip—captioned “Realizing she isn’t as tough as she thought”—had been shared to TikTok on December 22, 2024, by @baderkris, and has been viewed more than 925,000 to date, sparking laughter in the comments.
Viewers were able to see the smaller canine, the puppy, target the nonchalant golden retriever with a few loud barks, before the Saint Bernard arrived to interrupt the unwanted interaction. The puppy then dropped to the ground dramatically.
While her expression of defeat was clearly candid, the puppy’s fall was almost comical due to its level of drama.
While Newfoundland and Saint Bernard dogs are known for their energetic temperaments that need early training despite their sweet natures, golden retrievers are better renowned for their agreeable traits.
Newfoundland dogs, sometimes referred to as “Newfies,” grow to be large and gentle, exhibiting strength and exceptional swimming abilities. Originally bred for working purposes in Newfoundland, Canada, these dogs were primarily used by fishermen for retrieving nets and rescuing drowning individuals due to their innate water rescue instincts. As a result, the breed have moderate exercise needs and need to be socialized from a young age.
The post has been liked more than 218,000 times to date, leading to more than 1,300 comments from amused viewers. Several have poked fun at how the interaction displays the common traits of the three breeds featured in the video.
