ATLANTA, Ga. (Atlanta News First) – For the last eight years, Ozzie Albies has been a Braves fan favorite.
But off the field, he’s sniffing out another passion.
“Readopting and re-homing dogs in need,” Albies said. “That’s our goal, to do as much as possible.”
Re-homing our furry friends – but also keeping them healthy – is why the partnership between the Ozzie Albies Foundation and Boehringer Ingelheim came naturally.
Recently, Albies and his seven dogs posed for photos as a part of an ad campaign for Boehringer Ingelheim’s parasite protection medication, NexGard PLUS.
Those photos are now advertised on the walls of the Atlanta Braves’ dugout – or rather, the “dog-out.”
“It was definitely a challenge,” Albies said. “That was the first time we had ever done it. We got it done in like an hour with seven dogs to get whatever pictures they needed. That was very special and we made it happen.”
Now, all seven of Ozzie’s pups greet him – and the rest of the team – every day at the ballpark.
“They always tell me, ‘Hey, we get it. Why are your dogs on the wall?’” Albies said. “They know why, because we have the foundation. It’s definitely amazing when I walk in here. It puts a smile on my face.”
And maybe adding some good luck, along the way.
But for Ozzie and his wife Andreia, it’s about more than puppy paparazzi.
“It’s special because I always grew up having dogs,” Albies said. “Where I come from you see a lot of strays. It will definitely help with the medicine for all the dogs, especially here in Georgia where we try to re-home the dogs and give them a better life.”
Because baseball’s always better with man’s best friend.
