This dog is impressive in countless ways! She’s out for her morning walk with her dad, waiting on the sidewalk to cross the street like a good girl. As soon as he gives her the all-clear, she struts through the crosswalk, holding her pretty purse proudly in her mouth. OMG! She is a riot! How many purses does she have to choose from? If I lived along her route, I would coordinate my morning routine to see her daily and keep count. This is undoubtedly what true happiness looks like.

Like children, experts feel that dogs also find comfort in familiar toys, which can help them overcome anxiety in stressful situations. Their desire for certain toys may also have to do with their inherent pre-drive, especially for dogs like retrievers who enjoy playing a game of fetch with their favorite frisbee or ball. Others speculate that female dogs bond with an item they nurture, just as they would a puppy. Although dogs can’t tell us why they have their favorite things, many do. If they are happy and are not resource-guarding, why not let them enjoy their preferences? Especially if it comforts them in situations they would otherwise feel anxious about.

If I ever travel to Sydney, I will make it a point to visit Darlinghurst to see this extra-fancy girl. While there are plenty of amazing sites in Australia, this pretty princess is now at the top of my list.
