Portland Sea Dogs’ home opener: Here’s what fans need to know

The team returns to Hadlock Field on Tuesday night after a 3-0 start on the road.

PORTLAND, Maine — The Portland Sea Dogs are set to play their first home game of the 2025 season Tuesday night at Hadlock Field, facing the New Hampshire Fisher Cats. First pitch is set for 6 p.m., and fans are already buzzing with excitement despite the cold forecast.

The team is coming off a strong 3-0 start on the road, and players and staff said they’re ready to keep that momentum going for the hometown crowd.

“Opening day is like Christmas morning to us,” Chris Cameron, vice president of communications for the Sea Dogs, said. “We’ve waited all winter long for the team to return and to hear the words play ball.”

Fans can expect to see several upgrades around the park this year, including a new dugout, clubhouse (which will open in June), scoreboard, and additional parking at the nearby University of Southern Maine.

“It provides the most affordable parking in the area at just $3 per game for our fans,” Cameron said.

While temperatures are expected to be in the high 30s, it’s far from the worst opening night weather the team has faced—like in 2001, when a helicopter was used to clear snow off the field.

Still, the chill isn’t keeping fans away. Ticket sales show a strong turnout is expected.

“We’re looking forward to seeing over 4,000 fans come out to the ballpark to see the Sea Dogs on opening day,” Cameron said.

Team officials are excited about how this season’s roster is looking.

“David Sandlin and Connelly Early who pitched over the weekend, two of the top pitching prospects for the Red Sox, and then you have Jhostynxon Garcia, known as ‘The Password’ in the outfield. [He] had some fantastic at-bats. And then Corey Rosier opening day grand slam, can’t really start your season out better than that,” Emma Tiedemann, the Sea Dog’s director of broadcasting, said.

At the Sea Dogs’ Fan Fest last week, players said they are ready to get back on the field.

“I’m really excited about the team we have. You know, we have a really great squad and I’m excited to get out there,” infielder Blaze Jordan said.

“We’ve got a really talented roster, a really good staff, a lot of guys that have been around Portland already, and a lot of guys that know, like, the success of winning up here,” pitcher David Sandlin added.

The Favicon for the website, dogsandpurses(dot)com, features an all-black background with a minimalist line drawing of a puppy's head poking out of a stylish purse. The puppy's head is drawn with a cute and friendly expression, making it the focal point of the design. The purse, which the puppy is emerging from, is depicted with clean, elegant lines. The contrast between the black background and the white line drawing creates a striking and modern look for the Favicon.
