PORTLAND, Maine — Former Portland Sea Dogs infielder Blaze Jordan has been named the Eastern League Player of the Month for May, Minor League Baseball announced this week.
Jordan, 22, put together an impressive offensive stretch before his promotion to Triple-A Worcester, leading the league in multiple categories, according to a release from the Sea Dogs.
In 26 games, he hit .390/.490/.671, topping the league in batting average (.390), hits (32), RBI (24), on-base percentage (.490), slugging percentage (.671), and OPS (1.161). He also ranked second in home runs (6), third in total bases (55), and fourth in runs scored (18).
The former third-round pick by the Boston Red Sox recorded 10 multi-hit games in May and began the month on a 10-game on-base streak, hitting .419 with three doubles, two homers, and seven RBI over that span.
Through 44 games with the Sea Dogs this season, Jordan still leads the Eastern League in on-base percentage (.415), is second in RBI (37) and OPS (.928), third in batting average (.320), fourth in runs (30), and fifth in slugging percentage (.513).
Jordan also earned Eastern League Player of the Week honors for May 19–25, when he hit .435 (10-for-23) with two homers, eight RBI, and two stolen bases over seven games. That stretch included an outstanding performance on May 23, when he went 3-for-4 with a home run and four RBI.
A native of Southaven, Mississippi, Jordan was drafted by the Red Sox in 2020 out of DeSoto Central High School. He was promoted to the Worcester Red Sox on June 3.
Jordan is the third Sea Dogs player to receive a league honor this season. Right-handed pitcher David Sandlin, who threw a seven-inning complete game shutout with eight strikeouts on May 29 against the Altoona Curve, was named Eastern League Pitcher of the Week for May 26–June 1.
The Sea Dogs wrap up their homestand against the Hartford Yard Goats this weekend at Delta Dental Park. The team will host Maine Whoopie Pies Night on June 6, Pride Night with postgame fireworks on June 7, and Catch on the Field and Maine Dairy Day on June 8.
