Police: Shooting during dog fight in Fort Lauderdale injures dog and owner

FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. – A dog and a woman were wounded during a shooting on Friday afternoon in Fort Lauderdale.

The shooting was on the sidewalk along Seabreeze Boulevard near Harbor Drive, police said.

A witness said a man’s dog was not on a leash and ran up to a woman with a dog.

“The victim’s dog got scared and bit the shooter and his dog which is when the guy pulled a pistol out of his pocket and shot the woman’s dog,” Joe Matelsky said.

Fire rescue personnel reported treating the man for dog bites and taking the injured woman to the Broward Health Medical Center.

Police officers took the dog injured to an emergency veterinarian.
