GRAND BLANC TOWNSHIP, Mich. (WJRT) – Police are asking the public to help locate a couple accused of allowing three dogs to starve in Grand Blanc Township, leading to the deaths of two.
Genesee County Sheriff Chris Swanson said 46-year-old Bruce Arlyn Austin and 43-year-old Jamie Lynn Cross moved out of a trailer on Justin Drive at the Parkwood Mobile Home Park off Maple Road on Nov. 11.
More than two weeks later on Nov. 27, neighbors reported hearing dogs barking inside the trailer. The property manager for Parkwood called authorities to investigate.
Genesee County Animal Control officers found three dogs inside. Two of them were severely emaciated and died while the third was clinging to life.
Investigators believe the former residents, Austin and Cross, abandoned the dogs and left them alone inside the trailer when they moved away.
A veterinarian conducted necropsies on the two deceased dogs, which turned up evidence of severe starvation. It appeared the dogs ate hair, plastic and metal while seeking nourishment.
The third dog, who was named Bubba, survived the ordeal and recently was adopted into a new home.
The sheriff’s office is looking for Austin and Cross so they can be questioned about the dogs’ living conditions. Anyone with information about the couple’s whereabouts should call the Genesee County Sheriff’s Office.
