WASHINGTON TWP., Ohio (WTVG) – It’s a look inside the property where 80 dogs were seized in Henry County last week. 13 Action News obtained the report where officers visited the property last summer.
Dobermans in stacked wire crates, dogs in poor health, and cages with soiled wood chips.
This is what the Henry County Sheriff’s Office described seeing at 65-year-old Marty Eis’ property on June 6, 2025, swiftly charging him with cruelty to companion animals.
Earlier this week, Henry County Prosecutor Gwen Howe-Gebers acknowledged people had made previous complaints about the dog owner. She said because not everyone would sign a complaint, it made it difficult to move forward.
She also said officers had gone out to Eis’ property within the last year.
“Last year, he was given an opportunity to change things, make things better, and obviously he did not,” the prosecutor said in a press conference earlier this week.
Images released in a Henry County Sheriff’s Office police report obtained by 13 Action News show similar conditions to what was described on June 6, except the photos were taken by officers nearly one year before, on June 13, 2024.There was very little narrative on the report, but attached were thirty photos of Eis’ property. Most appeared to be taken on the outside of the property.
“The sheriff’s department was familiar with him from previous interactions with him last year, so they knew kind of what they were getting into, but not to this extent,” Howe-Gebers previously said during a press conference.
When officers were at the property last week, they found a total of eighty dogs inside and outside the home, all Dobermans.
At this point, it is still unclear why Eis had so many dogs.
A profile that was up on the American Kennel Club marketplace showed a Doberman breeder named Marty Eis. He was selling puppies out of Liberty Center, Ohio. We reached out to the company for a statement. A spokesperson said Eis joined the site in 2023 but had no recent sales on the account and none this year.
“The American Kennel Club does not, under any circumstances, condone animal cruelty,” wrote an AKC spokesperson in a statement to 13 Action News. “Upon learning of the seizure of animals and the subsequent arrest, we immediately revoked the individual’s access to AKC services and initiated our formal disciplinary process.”
The police report from June 2024 noted that the dog warden would cite Eis’ property for not having a kennel license.
13 Action News requested a report from the Henry County Dog Warden’s Office and was told the report will be sent in the coming days.
