EVANSVILLE, Ind. (WFIE) – Madisonville Police Department officials say a woman was arrested Tuesday afternoon on various charges, including harboring a vicious animal.
According to a police report, officers were dispatched to the 300 block of Corbly Avenue in reference to a disturbance report.
Central dispatch informed officers that the caller told them a neighbor was drunk and allowing her dogs to chase after children.
When police arrived on scene, they saw 7 to 10 dogs running around and actively being aggressive towards neighbors.
While speaking to the caller, police were told that one of Juanita Lanham’s dogs had gotten out of the house, and kids in the neighborhood were trying to get the dog back into Juanita’s yard.
The caller then told police that is when Juanita became belligerent and proceeded to let the rest of her dogs out of the house. They were able to show officers a video of the incident occurring.
Officials say the caller reported that another neighbor had been bit by one of Juanita’s dogs.
The victim told police that the bigger black dog was the one that bit her and showed officers the wound that she sustained from the dog.
Officers then went to Juanita’s home to make contact with her. While speaking to her, officers observed Juanita stumbling, having slurred speech and could smell the alcohol coming from her person.
Officers eventually determined that Juanita was under the influence of alcohol and engaged in conduct that created a substantial danger of physical injury to another.
She was placed under arrest and transported to the Hopkins County Detention Center.
Juanita faces the following charges:
- Wanton Endangerment – 2nd Degree
- Alcohol Intoxication in a Public Place
- Harboring a Vicious Animal
