The two dogs found at the residence of Gene Hackman after his mysterious passing are confirmed to be safe. The esteemed actor, aged 95, and his spouse Betsy Arakawa, 65, were discovered deceased in their New Mexico abode on February 26, alongside only one of their canine companions.
Separate rooms held the bodies of Hackman and Arakawa, while the dog was located in a bathroom closet.
Two additional dogs were found on the premises; one inside the home and another outside on the property. The Santa Fe County Sheriff’s Office shared on Facebook: “The Santa Fe County Animal Control Division worked with family to ensure the safety of the two dogs.”
Concerns arose on February 26 when a maintenance worker, due to visit the home of the ‘French Connection’ star, received no response from within. Security personnel from the neighbourhood were summoned to perform a welfare check and discovered the lifeless forms of Hackman and Arakawa through a window.

Their bodies were positioned separately, with Arakawa in a bathroom and Hackman in a mudroom adjacent to the kitchen. No evidence of forced entry or visible trauma was apparent at the scene, prompting a slew of unanswered queries regarding the incident.
Initial conjecture pointed towards carbon monoxide poisoning, yet subsequent tests for both Hackman and Arakawa returned negative results.
The Santa Fe County Sheriff’s office released a statement saying: “In the early hours of Thursday, February 27, 2025, Hackman and Arakawa were transported to the Office of the Medical Investigator.
