CAMDEN, Tenn. — A man and woman from Camden have been cited for animal cruelty and neglect.
We spoke to Sheriff Ken Christopher who told us that 44-year-old Charles Jordan and 57-year-old Linda Jared were written citations by Animal Control Officer Gammon for neglect and animal cruelty.
“He contacted the sheriffs office and asked for a deputy to assist him. Chief Deputy Van Clark and Deputy Mullins went out to assist, and on arrival, they saw approximately 20 dogs. Some that were deceased,” said Sheriff Christopher.
The sheriff said that two or three dogs were tied on a leash.
“Four or five were in cages or kennels. Eight were running freely and the other four were dead already and their bodies were already decayed from how long they had been left there dead. Two of those dogs were still in the kennels decaying,” said Sheriff Christopher.
Christopher stated that the dogs were very malnourished and their bones were showing through their skin.
“Looking very weak. No access to water or food to be seen. Animal Control Officer Gammon wrote both homeowners citations. 15 counts of animal neglect for the dogs that looked malnourished with no access to food or water and 6 felony counts of aggravated animal cruelty and neglect for the two dogs that were very weak,” said Sheriff Christopher.
Sheriff Christopher stated that animal control removed the dogs and placed them in a rescue shelter.
Sheriff Christopher says the two were not arrested because they claimed they have health issues.
